Latin American Fire Protection Network Code of Ethics

The Latin American Fire Protection Network (LATAM PCI), is a non-profit organization that brings together organizations involved in fire protection in Latin America, whose main function is to unify and promote a professional culture of fire protection by the authority, users and society in the region.

LATAM PCI members recognize that the association’s mission is oriented towards transforming the way fire issues are addressed in Latin America, making fire protection a relevant issue from a social, technical and regulatory point of view. Consequently, LATAM PCI members must conduct themselves with transparency, knowledge, honesty, impartiality, fairness and equity.

In their commitment to contribute to the organization’s objectives, LATAM PCI members should set an example for other professionals in the region, constantly seeking to improve their competencies and acting within a framework of professional behavior, aligned with the highest principles of ethical conduct in a balanced relationship with the interests of the public, clients, employees, colleagues and the community.

LATAM PCI members are expected to act in accordance with the provisions of this Code of Ethics and applicable laws in the countries in which they operate, and to actively encourage others to do the same. Members should use their best judgment in the application of the following principles.

Righteousness: All activities will be conducted in a transparent and fair manner. No bribes or any other type of benefits are given or received to grant or achieve advantages in business or any type of activity. Corruption is unacceptable in any form in the contracting process.

Honesty: Perform with truth and justice, without putting their own needs or interests before these values. Firmly follow codes of conduct characterized by rectitude, probity and honesty.

Conflict of interest: All stakeholders shall be informed in a timely manner of known or potential conflicts of interest or other circumstances that may influence the judgment or quality of the work. It is recommended at all costs to avoid exposure to a conflict of interest, being “judge and party” in the development of projects (engineering, procurement, execution, reception).

Social senseTo always act with the consideration that the practice of the profession constitutes, in addition to a technical and economic activity, a social function. The fair payment of collaborators or subcontractors shall be ensured, observing and guaranteeing compliance with the national regulations in force regarding industrial safety and occupational safety.

Legality: Business, commercial transactions and other public and private activities are conducted within the framework of the rules, legislation and constitution of the country in which it operates, including respect for intellectual property in the professional practice. Quality: Products, services and other activities in the field of Fire Protection Systems are offered and delivered with a commitment to quality and are carried out with regulatory discipline. Likewise, we do not sacrifice product quality for price, nor do we supply or install equipment that is oversized, counterfeit, not permitted by local regulations or unnecessary for the customer.

Professional competence: Members shall perform their work and render their services in such a manner as to maintain and enhance the honor, prestige and integrity of their profession. They will accept responsibility for their actions, give proper credit for the contribution of others, and not accept credit for the work of others. Fire Protection requires specialized knowledge (from concept, design to commissioning), therefore, continuous formulation is indispensable to strengthen the professional competence of the work teams.

Healthy competition: The associates participate in a free and open market, with no interest in harming competitors, economically or in their reputation, and promoting healthy competition. The activities in the field of Fire Protection have an economic value, the services are not provided free of charge in order to obtain benefits in the contracting.
